Projects > Grey Line Performance

This work is a series of explorations of time as both medium and subject mater. It is my hope to present both myself and the viewer with a unique experience of non-linear time. The paintings themselves are residual - what remains after a repetitive performance. They serve as a record of time and physical action, as well as finished paintings in the traditional sense. The rules followed while creating these pieces require the process of painting to be slowed down at an exaggerated level. What is recorded is something that exists outside of typical "painting time" or Western clock time. Here, time is simultaneously stretched and condensed in the finality of a filled page. These paintings are an attempt to reconcile painting and performance. They are an attempt at defining a different way humans can experience change outside the structured schedule of a clock.

Exaggerating the speed at which an action is carried forth has potential of altering our perception of time.
